Know your screen printing inks
When it comes to choosing the right print method, deciding on the proper ink is one of the most important choices you have to make. There are three types of inks to choose from, Plastisol Ink, Water Based Ink, and Discharge Ink being a type of Water Based Ink.
Plastisol
Plastisol Ink is non water-soluble and is composed of PVC particles suspended in a plasticizing emulsion. This ink type provides excellent printability over extended periods.
Water Based
Water Based Ink penetrates the fabric more than the plastisol inks and create a much softer feel. Ideal for printing darker inks onto lighter coloured garments. Also useful for larger area prints where texture is important.
Discharge
Discharge Ink which removes the shirt’s dye instead of putting a color on top of the shirt. It is somewhat similar to bleaching in a design, except it doesn’t damage the fibers like bleaching would. It results in an extremely soft print, and shows the weave of the shirt.
We also offer an eco friendly vegan water based ink PERMATONE.
PERMATONE has been granted approval by the Soil Association in the UK, having successfully met the requirements of the Global Organic Textiles Standards (GOTS) for non-organic chemical inputs for use in organic textile processing. PERMATONE inks are the first range of textile inks outside the UK to obtain the Soil Association Approval.
PERMATONE inks are also vegan. They have not been tested on animals and do not contain any animal products. PERMATONE inks are 100% solvent free, yet still deliver really pure, vibrant colour, an exceptionally superior soft handle and excellent durability. If you are looking for organic screen printing then the PERMATONE ink is the perfect choice. Pair this ink with a ROYAL APPAREL organic shirt for a completely organic, eco-friendly product.
